Medical Insurance Information...
At
EMCI, we want our clients to have a worry
free stay in Canada but sickness and
accidents can happen. Medical services in
Canada are of the highest calibre but are
very costly to those not possessing medical
coverage, so MEDICAL INSURANCE IS A
MUST!!! While Canadian citizens and
permanent residents are covered by
provincial medical insurance services,
Canada does not pay for hospital or medical
services for visitors. (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/visit/visit-faq05.asp)
The Government of Canada does not pay for
the medical costs of foreign students.
Health coverage for foreign students varies
among the provinces. (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-arriving.asp)
In British Columbia:
An
individual must be a resident of British
Columbia in order to qualify for medical
coverage under British Columbia’s Medical
Service Plan (MSP). A resident is a person
who meets all of the following conditions:
-
Must be a citizen of Canada or be
lawfully admitted to Canada for
permanent residence;
-
Must make his or her home in British
Columbia;
-
Must
be physically present in British
Columbia at least 6 months in a calendar
year; and
-
Dependents
of MSP beneficiaries are eligible for
coverage if they are residents of B.C.
If
you are coming to British Columbia with a
student visa and/or work permit valid for
one year (or more), you are eligible
for MSP coverage after completing a
waiting period that normally consists of the
balance of the month of arrival plus two
months (3 months in total), but tourists
or visitors to B.C. do NOT qualify.
Make sure you
contact us prior to your arrival so we
can sign you up for a Medical
Insurance Plan that best fits your
needs.
